The Capitelles trail from Uzès

The Capitelles trail,

The Eure valley and Uzès

Discover Uzès and its scrubland

We are taking advantage of the last day of the year to take a stroll into our beautiful region.

The weather is cool but beautiful, perfect for a nice family walk in the Uzès area.

We chose the Capitelles trail, although we had already done it some time ago. It was renovated in 2023: clearing of the vegetation, restoring the Capitelles…

We used the recommended route from the Rando Gard website. We parked in the free car park at “Le refuge” and from there we followed the guide’s instructions. It is very well explained, you just have to follow the yellow trail, the path is quite well marked.

This route is approximately 11.2 km with 330m of elevation gain. Allow approximately 3h30.

I give you the links to the route and additional information at the end of this article.

This hike will allow you to appreciate the architectural heritage of the Uzès region. Starting with the Moulin de Carrière and the Chateau de Bérard. You will also discover many Capitelles and the traditional dry stone walls.

The rest of the trail will guide you through our local nature: the scrubland. You will appreciate the beautiful vegetation and the pretty viewpoints.

You will then arrive in the Capitelles area set along the path, hidden under the holm oaks.

The next step on this trail will take you to the toposcope (Table d’orientation). At this point you will enjoy a great panorama of Uzès with its four towers: Bermonde tower, Bishop’s tower, King’s tower and Fenestrelle tower.

On a clear day you will enjoy the view of the Cévennes mountain.

To continue you will go down into the Eure valley before going back up to Uzès.

In this valley you will enjoy a beautiful expanse of greenery, a river lined with plane trees that you will cross using a suspension bridge. And you will also discover the remains of the Eure spring which supplied Nîmes with water by passing by the Pont du Gard.

You will finish this hike by strolling through the streets of Uzès. Before returning to the parking lot, admire the “Duché” and don’t forget to go through the “Place aux Herbes”. And if you have time, a snack break will be well deserved.
